Don't get me wrong, I love some of my teachers. Some of them are smart, funny, intelligent, and have many more traits that are excellent in a great teacher. This may be the case with some teachers, but I have found that most teachers think they are better teachers than they actually are. One of my mediocre teachers actually bluntly stated when I asked her why she took up teaching "I have always wanted to become a teacher." This is showing that even bad teachers say they enjoy teaching.
I think bad teachers enjoy teaching not because they love kids, or because they want to expand the minds of children, but because they have power in the classroom that they just don't normally have in the real world. They can say shut up and instantly they have a classroom of quiet and obedient kids. They can threaten to lower a kid's grade if they do something wrong, or "perform inadequately" in the teachers eyes. They just don't have that power in the real world. Imagine a teacher coming home from work one day and saying to his/her spouse "shut up and make me dinner." I don't think the spouse of that teacher is going to be around much longer.
So what I am trying to get at here is that teachers have too much power. The grades should not be governed based on "how much a teacher likes you." Teachers should also not become teachers just for the power, they should become teachers because they want kids to learn something new exciting in new and exciting ways.
